YOUSSR

Communistic concept state, showing the similarities of propaganda in (neo) communist countries in an immersive manner through the medium of a ±7,5 minute VR. Presented in a lifecycle in triptych form, recontextualizing an often considered “dull history documentary” narrative in an engaging and participative shape.

My role

Concept, production VR, identity & merchandise, fake web page

Concept

In that collaboration we delved into Communist Propaganda's impact on individuals. Focusing on its archetypes, we sought to uncover the universal elements that made propaganda resonate across countries. Through a personal lens, we aimed to engage younger audiences in discussing Communism. The culmination was a VR installation, narrating how propaganda influenced life's stages, from birth to generational transfer. By adopting a less formal approach, we aimed to reveal the pervasive nature of propaganda language, which indoctrinated minds from early ages. With VR, YOUSSR allowed viewers to time-travel, immersing in the Communist era's ambiance, fostering reflection and critique of propaganda's tactics. Ultimately, our collaborative effort intertwined storytelling, technology, and personal perspective to shed light on the enduring effects of Communist propaganda.

Concept and design by Nicol Colga & Edith Dingemans & Giang Nguyen.
Exhibited at the Society of the Spectacle / S.O.S. in 2019.
